Description: Part-Time Maintenance Mechanic (Apparatus Driver)

Nature of Position:

§         Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe interior and exterior environment in all buildings and grounds owned and operated by the Mill Creek Fire Company

§         Performs maintenance and assists volunteer(s) and paid staff to allow for smooth operation of Fire and EMS services

§         Staff fire apparatus on an as-needed basis in the role of driver

Responsibilities:

§         Maintain the daily cleanliness of all buildings during work hours to include floors, walls, cabinets, and windows

§         Inspect on a monthly basis all fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, and grease and water separation systems - record as needed

§         Schedules and follows up with vendors to maintain building automation controls such as fire suppression systems, HVAC systems, emergency generator, grease trap system, etc.

§         Handles all general maintenance such as painting, burned out bulbs, spackling, ceiling tile replacement, and as necessary assist with minor plumbing, HVAC and electrical repairs

§         Oversee common areas, electrical rooms, janitorial rooms and storage areas are clean and safe at all times

§         Ability to operate gasoline powered washer, high lift and climb ladders in the performance of daily work

§         Performs exterior cleanup of parking lot, flower beds, drain trenches, grass cutting, etc.

§         Cleaning and upkeep of fire apparatus on a schedule that would rotate through all apparatus

§         Identify building deficits and arrange needed repairs

§         Conduct inspections and complete documentation as required

§         Knowledge of emergency shuts off for all utilities including operation of building electrical generators

§         Assist other volunteers and employees with companywide projects as needed

§         Any other job related duties as directed by the Operations Manager  

Hours of Work: Part Time – Monday - Friday

Salary: $15.00/hour

Benefits: No benefits are offered for this position

Minimum Qualifications:

§         High School graduate or GED equivalent

§         21 years of age

§         Valid driver’s license with no DUIs and less than 5 points

§         Clear criminal background check

§         Good oral and written communication skills

§         Current Healthcare Provider CPR/AED Certification

§         Delaware Emergency Vehicle Operator License and Delaware “Non-CDL” license

§         DSFS Basic Firefighting Skills

§         DSFS Driver/Operator with Engine, Rescue and Ladder driving experience

§         Use good safety habits at all times

§         Neat and clean appearance

§         Thorough, reliable, responsible, organized, flexible, and service oriented

Preferred Qualifications:

§         DSFS Aerial Apparatus Operations

§         Completion of a defensive driving course within the last two years

Basic Physical Requirements:

§         Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling 50+ pounds and constantly moving items correctly and safely;

§         Frequent kneeling, bending, crouching and reaching;

§         Frequent handling of various sizes and weights of items.
